During 2010, the American Nicaraguan Foundation (ANF) gave birth to a project called: "Saving the Planet with Style". Several fashion designers gave their designs to be sold in pro of the country's needs: housing and community, healthcare, economic independence and education. The comment made by TV Host Vanessa Hauc reflects what this project meant to everybody: "What a wonderful opportunity to contribute in a very small way to a great cause."
To have an understanding of the magnitude of the needs mentioned above, we can mention some facts. Although Nicaragua has seen it's infant and under-5 mortality rate decrease in the last years, sadly a significant proportion of the mortality (31.3%)are still attributed to poverty and unmet basic needs. More than 1 in 5 Nicaraguan children suffer from growth stunting due to malnutrition (UNICEF 2008).
Cecilia Perez sent two gorgeous dresses to be auctioned for the ANF cause. The first donation will help ANF to provide nutritional assistance for over 68 Nicaraguans for one year. The second donation will contribute to the annual public health of 58 Nicaraguan infants.
